Flute Sonata No. 2, BWV 1031 (J. S. Bach, 1685-1750)

J. S. Bach composed eight flute sonatas including the partita unaccompanied. Among them, three pieces are assumed as the work by other family members out of consideration for their style. This sonata, one of the works that is assumed as the one by C. Ph. E. Bach, is loved by many people since it is most lyric and beautiful among the eight works. Especially the second movement Siciliano is the highlight of this work, and sometimes is played separately.

Andante in C, K. 315 (W. A. Mozart, 1756-1791)

W. A. Mozart's flute concertos are made by the request of De Jean, a music lover in Netherland. Andante in C is considered as a technically less difficult substitution for the second movement of the concerto in G, K. 313. However, the concerto in G is completed with its original second movement. Then Andante in C becomes a separate piece, which is loved by many people. This is one of typical flute pieces of W. A. Mozart, together with the three concertos and the four quartets for flute, violin, viola, and cello.

The third, Minuet movement of L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by G. Bizet is probably one of the most popular classical flute music pieces. Original is a flute solo with orchestra accompaniment. Bizet considers flute as important in symphony as well as in orchestral music. This minuet is a beautiful piece of flute music with a little flavor of womanhood and nobility, sometimes is played as an encore in recitals. Though becomes often a goal for amateur flutists due to its popularity, this piece involves high degree of difficulty.
